The kitchen backsplash is mostly just there for pure function and I would say 90% (random number I will give) of the time matching the fireplace surround and also the kitchen floor. The backsplash is an underestimated statement of your home. For relatively little money you can bring kitchen from ho hum to wow! Most people and more importantly most buyers will notice an exceptional backsplash. Especially in the suburbs when every home starts to blend into the next. Why not have your home stand out just a little bit.

I would most definitely tell people to focus on their backsplash before anything else in their kitchen renovations. This minimal investment will give you maximum return.
